UPCOMING WOODLANDS FARM (Shooters Hill) WILDLIFE SURVEYSWe have had a successful week of surveys this week with a great bat survey on Wednesday with a lot of Pipistrelles heard and our busiest bee survey of the year, especially thanks to some thistles!
So we have some more survey dates for your diaries:
Thursday 23rd July, 9.20pm - Bat Survey
Wednesday 12th August, 2pm - Bee Walk
Wednesday 26th August, 8pm - Public Bat Walk. Volunteers required with bat detectors to mingle with group so everyone can hear bats
The Big Butterfly count is also coming up, between 17th July and 9th August. If you fancy a trip down to the farm to record butterflies anytime between those dates I might try organise a date too for a group of us to do a survey, so if can do that I will let you know. Monday 10th August - mini-beasts and plants at Lesnes.Minibeast Hunting (1 1/4 hour family workshop)
£3 per child (accompanying adults come free!)
Come join us at Lesnes Abbey as we explore the vegetation and flowers around the park looking for minibeasts. Learn how to use a sweep net along with other equipment such as 2 way microscopes and discover the amazing insects, spiders and other smaller creatures that call Lesnes home.
Times: 10-11:15, 11:30-12:45, 1:00-2:15

Not seen this many Aphid (Eriosoma lanuginosum)-induced bladder-like galls on Elm before. Nor has the London Natural History Society gall recorder Tommy Root. The aphids cause these distorted leaf growths, which they then live inside. WhitehallLane, Slade Green, near railway station footbridge. 19th June.
