New invertebrate recording and identification training project from the Field Studies Council features several events in London, including upcoming sessions on Earthworms and Spiders to be held at Lesnes Abbey Woods ......
FSC BioLinks project: Over the next 5 years the FSC will be delivering a host of invertebrate identification training courses and invertebrate recording events. The aim is to strengthen the existing biological recording community by recruiting and training a host of new recorders, as well as providing plenty of training opportunities for existing recorders that would like to improve/broaden their skills.
One of our two project regions is the South East (with a particular focus on London). The first wave of training courses has been opened for bookings, and this includes 12 courses in London (plus a residential course on centipedes in Surrey and four courses at Dinton Pastures in Berkshire). Keiron Brown will be delivering the earthworm courses (he is the LNHS recorder for earthworms) and Edward Milner will be delivering most of the spider training courses. There will be 4 back-to-back beetle courses at Bushy Park.
There is a small fee for each course (just £5), but this sometimes includes free resources worth more than £5 (depending on the species group).

Black-tailed Godwits photographed in the Erith area this February by Mike Robinson. Like several other waders, the species is in trouble and is the subject of a 'head-starting programme' to help build up numbers. It's another illustration of the importance of habitat in Bexley for a number of bird species of conservation concern.
